U.S.-Iran talks pause for funeral of former supreme leader

Negotiations between the United States and Iran will pause for one week for funeral commemorations of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in U.S.-Israeli strikes on Feb. 28. Qatar and Pakistan, serving as mediators, said Thursday that the next meetings will be scheduled at the earliest possible time after the events conclude on July 9.
President Trump said Wednesday that the indirect talks in Doha showed progress, telling reporters that the denuclearization of Iran is moving along well. Qatar and Pakistan also stated that positive progress was made during the session.

Oman began separate talks with Iran on Monday regarding future administration of the waterway. A senior research fellow at the Institute for Science and International Security said down-blending Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium would not resolve U.S. concerns.
The analyst added that Iran continues construction at a nuclear facility south of Natanz and earns billions from oil exports under U.S. waivers.
