U.S. airlines added flights and recorded higher bookings to the 16 host cities during the 2026 World Cup. American Airlines added more than 27,000 seats on 12 routes to the host cities. The carrier also operated 158 flights with added or larger aircraft for the tournament.
Lines executives said the airline benefited from the event. Chief Commercial Officer Joe Esposito stated the carrier saw gains flight by flight. Delta CEO Ed Bastian said the tournament provided positive exposure for the United States. He added that the coverage could increase inbound travel in the coming year.
United recorded a nearly 20 percent rise in bookings to host cities between June 11 and June 27. The airline said its hubs in Houston and Chicago offered direct service to all host cities. American Airlines introduced a branded aircraft and offered gate events with giveaways on flights between host cities. The carrier also made tournament broadcasts available on its inflight entertainment system.
