The official stated that the country remains in the alliance and will use the gathering to discuss outstanding topics. "The United States is still in the NATO alliance, and we'll be there in Turkey to talk about all these topics. Others chose not to send naval forces to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz for energy tankers.
The official noted that certain countries had restricted access to military bases during a period of crisis.
American presidents have routinely attended NATO summits in the past. A NATO Northern Multi-Corps Land Component Command opening ceremony occurred in Mikkeli, Finland, on October 3, 2025.
