U.S. Border Apprehensions in April Lower Than One Hour in December 2023
Daily average apprehensions at the southern border fell to 298 in April. The figure is less than the hourly average recorded in December 2023.
nypost.comU.S. The monthly average is lower than the 336 migrants apprehended each hour in December 2023.
Homeland Security officials reported 12 consecutive months with no releases of migrants into the United States after apprehension. Officials stated that the policy ended prior practices of releasing individuals into the country pending hearings. Apprehensions for the current fiscal year stand at the lowest monthly average since 1992, according to agency data.
Officials attributed the decline to stricter enforcement measures implemented after January 2025.
Nationwide seizures of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, and fentanyl rose 60 percent in April compared with April 2024. Heroin seizures increased 73 percent from March 2026, and methamphetamine seizures rose 63 percent. The agency reported seizing 463 pounds of fentanyl during the month. Officials said the increase in drug seizures occurred alongside the drop in migrant crossings.
