U.S. Coast Guard Finalizes $3.5 Billion Contract for Five Arctic Security Cutters
The contract with Davie Defense was finalized Wednesday after a preliminary agreement in February. Two cutters will be built in Finland and three in Texas, with the first delivery scheduled for 2028. The move follows President Donald Trump’s memorandum last October highlighting insufficient icebreaker capacity in the Arctic.

The contracts had been initially awarded back in February as a preliminary agreement.
That agreement has now been finalized with all details negotiated. U.S. Coast Guard has agreed to two other Arctic Security Cutters agreements. One additional agreement is with Rauma Marine Constructions of Rauma, Finland, for two cutters.
One additional agreement is with Bollinger Shipyards of Lockport, Louisiana, for four additional cutters. The agreements with Rauma Marine Constructions and Bollinger Shipyards have yet to be finalized. “Finalizing this contract represents decisive action to guarantee American security in the Arctic,” said Adm.
