U.S. Customs Officers Seize Over 8,000 Pounds of Methamphetamine at Two Texas Border Crossings
Officers found 7,047 pounds of methamphetamine worth $63 million in a pickup truck at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo and more than 1,000 pounds worth $9.3 million in a tractor-trailer at the Pharr International Bridge on June 19.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than 8,000 pounds of methamphetamine valued at over $72 million from two vehicles attempting to enter Texas from Mexico on June 19. At the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, officers stopped a 2011 Dodge Ram whose driver said the truck carried polypropylene.
A canine inspection and X-ray scan revealed 7,047 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside, valued at $63 million.
The same day at the Pharr International Bridge, officers discovered 193 packages containing more than 1,000 pounds of methamphetamine concealed in a tractor-trailer. The drugs were estimated at $9.3 million in street value. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations division is conducting criminal inquiries into both cases, and charges are expected against the drivers.
“These large-scale cargo methamphetamine seizures, both taken the same day at different ports of entry within the Laredo Field Office, underscore the serious drug threat our officers are facing as well as their resolve to stem the flow of this poison into the U.S.,” a CBP director of field operations for the Laredo Field Office said in a statement.
The agency noted that seizures exceeding $1 million in value are considered significant at southern border ports of entry.
