U.S. Central Command forces intercepted four Iranian one-way attack drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz on June 5, 2026. Central Command said the drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.

U.S. forces subsequently struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk, in Hormozgan province, and on Qeshm Island. Central Command described the action as taken to defend against further attacks.

An official told CNN that Iran had launched multiple drones toward the strait Friday evening and that at least four were intercepted. Military statements described the drones as one-way attack munitions aimed at shipping lanes.

The events took place as the United States continues to enforce a naval blockade around Iran’s ports. Iranian independent media reported the sounds of explosions from near Bandar Abbas about an hour before the U.S. announcement. State-affiliated Iranian media denied those reports.

The sequence occurred during a ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran that began as a two-week temporary cessation on April 8. President Trump declared the ceasefire indefinite on April 21. Six weeks later, an increasing number of skirmishes have taken place that have not yet led to a return to full-scale combat operations.

U.S. forces are based in Kuwait. In a June 1 appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” an official stated that “Most of the drone factories have been knocked out, most of the launching pads have been knocked out, and most of the missile manufacturing areas have been knocked out. But they still have capacity.”
