U.S. EV Deliveries Fell 27% in Q1 2026 as Makers Cancel Some Models and Shift Output

U.S. electric-vehicle deliveries fell 27% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, according to Cox Automotive data. The decline followed a 46% drop in EV sales in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Nissan stopped building the Ariya, Acura halted the ZDX, and Volkswagen paused the ID. Buzz until 2027. Hyundai confirmed it will stop selling the Korean-built standard Ioniq 6 in the United States. The company sold 229 Ioniq 6 units in February.

The Kia Niro EV has been discontinued in the United States. The vehicle was first introduced for the 2018 model year, received a facelift for 2026, and was imported from Kia’s Hwaseong plant in South Korea. The plug-in hybrid version of the Niro was also discontinued as part of the 2026 lineup adjustment.

CEO Elon Musk announced that Tesla will end production of the Model S in 2026. The sedan starts at $94,990. Tesla will end production of the Model X in the second quarter of 2026. The SUV starts at $99,990.

Production lines that made both vehicles will now build Tesla’s Optimus robots. Kia is delaying the GT trims of the EV6 and EV9 until further notice due to changing market conditions. Other trims of the EV6 and EV9, made at Kia’s plant in West Point, Georgia, remain on sale in the United States.
