U.S. Strikes Iran After Iranian Attacks Kill 17 U.S. Troops

Iran's president said Monday that the country is engaged in a full-scale war with the United States after Washington expanded strikes across multiple provinces. "The reality is that today the Islamic Republic of Iran is engaged in a full-scale war," the president said in a presidency statement. He added that officials must accept the natural consequences of resistance.

U.S. strikes on Monday targeted areas in northern and central Iran, including Bushehr province, which hosts the country's only operational civilian nuclear power plant. A provincial governor told state news agency IRNA that several locations in Bushehr city were hit by American projectiles.

In East Azerbaijan province, local crisis management officials reported one person killed and several others injured. All provinces struck on Monday host military bases and air defense systems.

Guards announced they had struck targets in Syria, Jordan, and Kuwait overnight. The Guards said they launched a surprise attack on a U.S. special operations command center in Syria's Al-Tanf region and targeted U.S. military aircraft at Jordan's Aqaba Airport.

Bahrain's interior ministry reported that air raid sirens sounded and urged residents to seek shelter. Kuwaiti air defenses engaged drone attacks, according to its army.

A vessel caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after an attack, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency. The Revolutionary Guards said two oil tankers exploded and were halted while trying to transit the strait. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said diplomatic exchanges with the United States via mediators were ongoing.
