U.S. forces struck 90 Iranian military targets overnight on July 8-9 as part of joint operations with Israel that began after President Donald Trump announced major combat operations on February 28. The strikes hit targets in at least nine towns and cities, including explosions on Abu Musa island at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz and in the port cities of Bushehr, Bandar Abbas, Jask, Sirik, and military facilities near Konarak.
A local official in Sirik said three people were killed and 15 injured when a strike hit a commercial fishing pier. Iran launched missiles and drones targeting Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar following the U.S. strikes.
Jordanian forces intercepted eight Iranian missiles aimed at Jordanian airspace on July 9, with air raid sirens sounding in Amman and other areas. The Jordanian Armed Forces reported no damage or casualties from the interceptions. In Kuwait, air defenses intercepted at least three ballistic missiles, one cruise missile and 10 drones, resulting in one injury and material damage from debris, according to the Kuwait Army.
The U.S. Embassy in Jordan issued a security alert warning of potential missiles, drones or rockets and advised people to seek overhead cover, shelter in place and remain indoors. Delegations from the U.S.
And Iran had entered negotiations last month based on a signed memorandum of understanding, though the two sides exchanged limited strikes in late June despite ongoing talks. A lead negotiator stated that the Strait of Hormuz will only open with an Iranian arrangement.
