U.S. and Iran Continue Talks on Draft Nuclear and Ceasefire Agreement

Iranian state media reported Friday that a draft memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is not yet finalized. Tasnim news agency stated that Western media accounts of an imminent agreement were inaccurate and that the text had undergone changes in recent days.

President Trump posted on Truth Social that the United States would unearth and control Iran's uranium, that no funds would be transferred to Iran, and that Iran must agree never to possess a nuclear weapon. Iranian officials responded that the statements contained a mix of truth and lies.

The sides are working toward a 60-day extension of the current ceasefire. During that period, negotiators plan to address Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium and other unresolved points. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran has no trust in guarantees or words from the United States.

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that President Trump has not yet approved the current draft.

Revolutionary Guards warned that any renewed conflict would spread beyond the region and cause severe damage to opponents. Iranian officials have also discussed a proposed $300 billion investment fund linked to the draft agreement. Iranian media reported that Tehran wants any enriched uranium transferred to China rather than the United States.

A separate Iranian parliamentary statement said there are no plans to move the material out of the country.
