Trump Adjusts Iran Demands After Strikes, Says 60-Day Talks Will Address Nuclear Stockpile

President Trump said this week that the United States is not seeking regime change in Iran and is not in a hurry to recover Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium. He said the administration will work with Persian Gulf countries on a parallel effort to address Iran's conventional missiles and other non-nuclear issues.

The ceasefire agreement makes no reference to ballistic missiles. It leaves most specifics on Iran's nuclear program for additional negotiations over the next 60 days. Iran amassed a stockpile of 60% enriched uranium in the years leading up to the war.

Iran agreed to resolve the disposition of stockpiled enriched material in talks over the next 60 days. The minimum methodology is down-blending the uranium to a lower level of purity onsite under the International Atomic Energy Agency's supervision.

President Trump said on June 14 in a New York Times interview that the final deal must permanently ensure Iran can only enrich for nonmilitary purposes and can never go beyond a certain amount, with a suspension on uranium enrichment for 15 or 20 years.

Vice President JD Vance said on June 18 that the Obama nuclear deal allowed enrichment. " The United States will lift all types of sanctions against Iran on an agreed-upon schedule as part of the final deal.

President Trump said on June 17: "It's not our money, it's their money." He addressed the Iranian people in a video on Truth Social on February 28 saying: "Take over your government." He said on June 16: "You talk about regime change."

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in strikes. Khamenei's son was elevated to the post of supreme leader. U.S. forces heavily targeted Iran's missile stockpile and missile factories throughout the war. President Trump said on February 28: "We're going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground."
