Vice President JD Vance said the United States and Iran are positioned to reach an agreement that addresses Iran's nuclear program for the long term. The agreement would also be economically beneficial for the United States, he added.

"I feel that we are in a position to get a deal that is good for the US economically and that really does deal with the Iranian nuclear program, not just now... but for the long term," he said. Vance spoke during a press briefing at the White House in Washington, DC, on May 19, 2026. The remarks were reported by Reuters.
