U.S. Jets Strike Iran Sites, Iran Reports Drone Attack on Kuwait Bases

U.S. fighter jets struck locations on Iran's Qeshm Island and near the city of Shadegan in Khuzestan province. At least two explosions were reported on Qeshm Island. Officials said the strikes hit an additional site near Shadegan.

Abdullahi, commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, stated that any aggression would be met with a decisive and devastating response from Iran’s armed forces. Abdullahi described the U.S. as the Great Satan as well as the criminal, treacherous and deceitful enemy.

He pledged to strengthen unity between Iran’s armed forces, the public and officials and to impose heavier costs on the U.S. than in previous wars. Abdullahi added that the enemy had turned to creating division between the people and their leaders after successive defeats in the military conflict.

Iran’s army said it launched a large-scale drone attack on two U.S. military facilities in Kuwait, striking an ammunition depot at Camp Al Adiri and Patriot and air-defence radars at Ali Al Salem airbase.

State Department urged Americans travelling anywhere in the world to exercise increased caution due to heightened tensions in the Middle East and the possibility of unforeseen escalation. The United States reinforced its naval blockade on Iran’s southern ports.

The blockade had been first imposed in mid-April, lifted after a June memorandum of understanding, and then reimposed after Washington rescinded oil and banking waivers. U.S. Central Command redirected ships in the Strait of Hormuz and struck the Curacao-flagged supertanker Belma, which had been transporting Iranian crude.

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the Saland area of Khuzestan province at a depth of about 12 kilometres. Two rescue teams were sent to villages near the epicentre to assess possible damage.
