U.S. Lawmakers Prepare New Limits on Chinese Biopharma Ties While Easing Domestic Rules

Political leaders are preparing additional legislative and regulatory steps to limit the growth of Chinese biopharma companies, Stat reported on June 25, 2026. The moves come after Congress passed a bill in 2025 that restricted how U.S. pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies can conduct business with Chinese firms.

Federal health officials are simultaneously working to simplify operations for companies inside the United States, according to the same report. Bobby McMillin, partner at Arnold Porter, said the prior restrictions have not fully addressed concerns. “The itch has not been entirely scratched,” he stated.
