Forbes reported that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed 2,231 measles cases in the United States as of July 9, 2026. The figure leaves the country 58 cases short of the 2,289 infections recorded for all of 2025. Children ages 5 to 19 made up 1,122 of the 2026 cases.
Ninety-three percent of infections occurred in people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown. The CDC data showed 140 hospitalizations linked to measles this year and no deaths. South Carolina recorded the highest state total with 670 cases, followed by Utah with 516, Texas with 182, Virginia with 176, Florida with 141 and Pennsylvania with 103.
The MMR vaccine has been available for over 50 years.
