U.S. men's national team coach says goalkeeper starting spot remains open
Manager Mauricio Pochettino stated that three goalkeepers on the World Cup roster will compete for the starting position ahead of the June 12 match against Paraguay.

Pochettino has started New York City FC goalkeeper Matt Freese in 13 of the last 14 matches. He also named New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner and Chicago Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady to the 26-man roster.
Roster and upcoming schedule The team will play friendlies against Senegal on May 31 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and against Germany on June 6 in Chicago before opening the World Cup against Paraguay on June 12 in Inglewood, California. "Goalkeeper is open," Pochettino said after announcing the roster.
" Matt Turner started all four matches for the U.S. at the 2022 World Cup. Matt Freese started in goal during the 2025 Gold Cup and saved a penalty in the quarterfinal shootout against Costa Rica.
