U.S. Strikes Iran; Iran Launches Ballistic Missile at Kuwait, Intercepted

m. ET on May 27 Iran launched a ballistic missile toward Kuwait that was successfully intercepted by Kuwaiti forces. " The incident occurred hours after U.S. forces conducted additional strikes on Iranian missile sites and one-way attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. officials said four drones were shot down and a ground-control station in Bandar Abbas was hit.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it launched a retaliatory attack on the air base that conducted the U.S. strikes, according to state media. Iran did not name Kuwait as the target. Kuwait's military announced that its air-defense systems intercepted incoming missiles and drones on Thursday.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry condemned the launches as blatant aggression. Kuwait has faced prior attacks from Iran and Iranian-backed groups before the April ceasefire.

A U.S.-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon has also faced tests. Israeli officials reported Hezbollah fired fiber-optic drones that struck troops and reached northern border towns. Israel conducted airstrikes in southern Beirut and the coastal city of Tyre on Thursday.

At least 14 people were killed in southern Lebanon, according to reports. Negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address Iran's enriched-uranium stockpile remain ongoing. Both sides have traded accusations of ceasefire violations throughout the week without returning to full-scale fighting.
