The U.S. military reported striking 170 Iranian targets in the past 48 hours after Iranian forces attacked commercial vessels transiting the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes began after explosions were reported at three additional locations in Iran late on Wednesday.
The U.S. revoked Iran's oil export waiver on 7 July. Iranian officials viewed the failure to end Israeli operations in Lebanon and the limited release of frozen assets as violations of the agreement.
The U.S. side concluded that Iran was attempting to control shipping routes rather than fully implementing the memorandum.
