U.S. government ordered Anthropic to remove its Fable 5 AI model from public release three days after the company shipped it. National security concerns were the stated reason for the order. Fable 5 had led on benchmarks and on testing by AI experts.

The Export Administration Regulations govern the Commerce Control List, which the Bureau of Industry and Security administers.
