A national poll released on Monday placed the U.S. president's approval rating at 37 percent. The figure marks the lowest level recorded since the start of the current term in January 2025. The New York Times/Siena poll found that nearly two-thirds of voters viewed the decision to enter the conflict with Iran as the wrong choice.

Fewer than one in four respondents said the war had been worth the costs.

Economic indicators and public views The nationwide average fuel price reached almost $4.52 per gallon, according to data from AAA. That price is up from $3.18 a year earlier. The same poll showed 64 percent of voters disapprove of the handling of the economy. Majorities also gave poor marks on cost of living, immigration, and the Israel-Palestine issue.

Voter sentiment and party standing Among independent voters, 47 percent said current policies have personally hurt them. That share was 41 percent last fall. Only 26 percent of voters said they were satisfied with the Democratic party. Forty-four percent of Democrats expressed dissatisfaction with their own party.

A 78-year-old contractor from Crescent Springs, Kentucky, who voted for the president, told The Guardian that gas prices are causing widespread hardship and that the conflict could have been handled differently.
