U.S. President Discusses Ukraine Conflict With Russian and Ukrainian Officials

The U.S. president spoke by phone with Russian and Ukrainian officials on Saturday to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine ahead of a NATO summit in Ankara. The Kremlin said the 85-minute conversation with Russian officials covered battlefield developments and diplomatic efforts. Officials stated that Russian forces are advancing on the front lines.

Negotiations remain stalled, with Russian officials demanding Ukrainian withdrawal from the entire Donetsk region. Ukrainian officials have rejected that condition. Both sides said the calls also served to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. The Kremlin added that Iran and the Middle East were discussed during the Russian call.
