U.S. Remains Top Oil Producer and Consumer as Global Output and Demand Rise

The 2026 Statistical Review of World Energy shows the United States remained the world's largest oil producer and consumer in 2025. Global crude plus condensate production reached 85.8 million barrels per day, up 2.8 million barrels per day or 3.4 percent from 2024. U.S.

Crude plus condensate output averaged 13.6 million barrels per day, or 15.8 percent of the global total. Russia produced 10.2 million barrels per day and Saudi Arabia produced 9.7 million barrels per day. The Middle East accounted for 31.0 million barrels per day, while North America produced 20.6 million barrels per day or 24.0 percent.

Under the broader total liquids measure, which includes natural gas liquids, global production reached 100.6 million barrels per day. The United States produced 21.1 million barrels per day, equal to 20.9 percent of the total and nearly 1.9 times Saudi Arabia's 11.4 million barrels per day. U.S.

Global oil consumption reached 103.0 million barrels per day, up 1.3 million barrels per day from 2024. The United States consumed 19.4 million barrels per day or 18.8 percent of global demand, while China consumed 17.4 million barrels per day or 16.8 percent.

Together the two countries accounted for 35.7 percent of world oil use and roughly 54 percent of demand growth. Non-OECD countries consumed 57.9 million barrels per day or 56. Asia Pacific consumed 39.7 million barrels per day or 38.5 percent of the total and roughly half of the year's demand increase.
