U.S. Strike Kills 3 Indian Sailors on Vessel in Gulf of Oman; 21 Rescued, India Summons American Diplomat
India summoned a senior U.S. diplomat after American forces struck the vessel Settebello, killing three Indian sailors. Twenty-one of the 24 crew members were rescued.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday that 21 of them had been rescued. Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said Thursday that the three crew members initially reported missing had been confirmed dead. “Three Indian seafarers initially reported missing are now confirmed dead after bodies have been located and identified,” the minister said in a post on X.
The strike on the Settebello marked the second incident involving an Indian-crewed vessel in the Gulf of Oman this week. India summoned the diplomat after the attack. The incident occurred amid rising Middle East tensions that have affected commercial shipping routes through the region.
