U.S. strikes damage reservoirs, leaving 20,000 without water in southern Iran
Iranian state media reported that U.S. strikes on reservoirs in Sirik cut safe drinking water for about 20,000 residents. The strikes followed an Iranian downing of a U.S. Army helicopter over Gulf waters.

About 20,000 residents lost access to safe drinking water, according to the same reports. The strikes also hit the southern cities of Jask and Sirik and Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Washington said the action followed Iran’s downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter over Gulf waters.
Water supply disruption Iran’s state television quoted local water company officials as saying temperatures between 45 and 50 degrees Celsius have made conditions extremely difficult. The officials added that the area lacks sufficient groundwater to replace the damaged reservoirs.
Efforts are under way to find alternative supplies for affected villages, according to a senior water company official in Hormozgan province. The same official stated that the destruction of the reservoirs has created a major problem for the region’s water supply network.
