UAAP Bars Ateneo Coaching Staff Present During June 8 Incident

The UAAP announced on June 19 that it has barred the Ateneo coaching staff present during a June 8 team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, from participating in any league-related activities while investigations into the deaths of two players remain ongoing.
The affected coaches include the now-resigned head coach and three assistant coaches. Four other assistant coaches did not attend the event and are not subject to the restriction.
Background on the Incident Two Ateneo players died from drowning during the activity. The National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group have opened separate probes. Ateneo has also launched its own independent fact-finding inquiry.
The UAAP said the measure is intended to preserve the integrity of the ongoing inquiry and ensure transparency. The league stated that no sanctions have been issued yet and that accountability will be determined based on the results of the investigations and its own rules.
