Public records show 323 UCLA law students received extra exam time in the 2024-25 academic year. The share receiving accommodations reached nearly one-quarter of total enrollment.
New York PostPublic records show that 323 of UCLA Law School's 1,374 students received extra time on exams during the 2024-25 academic year. That figure equals about 24 percent of the student body. The same records indicate that 308 students received extra exam time in the prior academic year. Extra time accounted for nearly all accommodation requests; only 12 students received other forms of assistance.
Of the 323 students who received extra time in 2024-25, 204 were granted 50 percent additional time. Another 44 students received 100 percent extra time, and four students were granted 150 percent extra time. A recent graduate who obtained the records through a public records request stated that the growth in extra-time accommodations raises questions about fairness on a strict grading curve.
The graduate noted that exams lasting three or four hours can extend by an hour or more for students with accommodations.
Nearly all extra-time accommodations were granted to students in the Juris Doctor program. Very few went to students in the Master of Laws or Master of Studies in Law programs. The California Post reported that similar increases in disability accommodation requests have been observed at other California law schools, including UC Berkeley, where roughly one-third of graduate students now claim psychological or other mental disabilities.
