UCLA Softball Fan Wears Chef Outfit to Games
A spectator at UCLA softball games has begun wearing a chef's hat and apron to support a player nicknamed Chef Megan. The fan started the practice after the player set an NCAA home run record.
nypost.comA UCLA softball spectator has started wearing a chef's hat and apron to games in support of player Megan Grant. The fan, identified as Kaitlyn Laabs, began the practice after Grant broke the NCAA single-season home run record two weeks ago. Laabs said she assembled the outfit from items in her kitchen and first wore it during the Bruins' NCAA Tournament Regional at Easton Stadium.
She told The California Post that she views Grant as a generational player both for her skill and her conduct on the field. Laabs said she only dons the chef's hat when Grant comes to bat. Grant hit home runs numbered 39 and 40, including a grand slam, during the Regional. In the Super Regional against Central Florida, Grant received six walks in seven plate appearances.
Player's Response Grant met Laabs last weekend.
Grant told The California Post that she found the resemblance and the outfit notable, adding that she was grateful for the support. Laabs said she plans to continue wearing the outfit while watching UCLA games at a Long Beach sports bar during the Women's College World Series this week.
