nypost.comUFC chief Dana White said Monday the weekend fight night at the White House will not be repeated, citing a $60 million cost and multiple logistical issues. White described the event as a one-of-one experience that drew thousands of fans to an octagon-shaped arena on Sunday.
He said the sport covered the full expense and that construction of the cage plus staging at federal landmarks created headaches that made a repeat impossible.
The CEO told reporters the total bill reached $60 million and that he could not afford to stage another such event. White also cited weather concerns for an outdoor show and the difficulty of building temporary infrastructure at federal sites. He added that the event would never be repeated at the White House or at the Las Vegas Sphere.
White said the event was not intended to be political and expressed hope that it created unity among attendees. He noted that fighters met with officials and toured the White House over the weekend. White stated the fight succeeded by every available measure, including record merchandise sales, though he did not release specific figures.
>"It was an amazing experience, this was a one-of-one. It will never happen again ... I can’t afford it.
