Background on current system Last year UFC president Dana White stated he could no longer accept the existing media-panel voting process. White indicated the promotion itself should not decide rankings either. The new system is intended to replace opinion-based rankings with data-driven criteria.
Other organizations updating rankings Tapology recently added a strength-of-schedule metric that assigns a numerical score from 1 to 99 based on a fighter’s last six opponents. The database displays the metric on fighter, event, and rankings pages. The UFC stated additional details on the new system will be released later.
