UK Begins Selling US Powerball Tickets at £4 per Line

The National Lottery's Powerball game went on sale across the UK on July 21 at £4 per line. GB News reported that this marks the first time the American jackpot game has been available outside the United States. British players compete alongside US counterparts for shared prizes paid out over 30 years, with the current estimated jackpot at $416 million, or roughly £311 million.

The inaugural UK draw is scheduled for Thursday. Allwyn, which runs the National Lottery, launched the game. Jackpots begin at £12 million and are uncapped. A prize tier exclusive to British players awards a fixed £8 for matching two main numbers, while matching five main numbers guarantees a fixed £1 million.

She added that the operator is encouraging players to participate and will be crossing its fingers for the first UK winner. The National Lottery underwent its most significant draw-based Lotto revamp since 1994, rolled out from June 7. The change is projected to more than double the number of Lotto millionaires per year from around 140 to approximately 345.

Allwyn also completed a £450 million technology overhaul that migrated 18 million player records and over three billion historical transactions to new platforms. Total National Lottery sales reached £8.1 billion in 2025, a 3.5 per cent rise on the previous year. The lottery sent more than £1.7 billion to good causes and raised a further £967 million in taxes during that period.
