UK Diesel Prices Fall 17p per Litre in June but Remain Above Pre-War Levels
Motorists saw the steepest monthly diesel price decline since 2000 as wholesale oil costs fell following the June agreement between the US and Iran. Petrol prices also declined during the month but remain above pre-conflict levels.

UK diesel prices fell 17 pence per litre in June, the largest monthly decline since 2000, according to data from the RAC. The drop followed the US and Iran agreement on a framework deal to end fighting that began on 28 February 2026. Average diesel prices declined from 183.75p to 167.14p per litre over the month.
37p to 151.40p per litre in the same period. Both remain above pre-war averages of 142p for diesel and 132p for petrol. Brent crude peaked above $120 a barrel during the conflict after starting near $70 before 28 February.
It has since returned to around $72 a barrel following the framework deal. The RAC said prices are still some way off pre-conflict levels. Head of policy Simon Williams stated that petrol should dip under 150p soon and diesel below 160p if oil prices fall further.
The AA expects additional declines at the pump and said the timing aligns with the start of summer holidays. Price changes at wholesale markets typically reach pumps after about two weeks due to transport delays. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced on 20 May that a planned 5p fuel duty increase scheduled for September would be postponed until 31 December because of the conflict.
