The Met Office forecasts highs of 26C in London and 23C in Manchester by the end of the week. Temperatures are expected to rise above average from Thursday onward.

Showers are continuing across parts of England and Wales this evening and tonight, with heavier and possibly thundery conditions expected toward the west. Much of Northern Ireland and Scotland will turn drier with clearer skies and some patchy fog. Monday will bring sunshine and showers for many areas, with a band of more persistent rain moving into Northern Ireland, Wales, and southwest England by evening.

Temperatures will remain near or a little below average.

Tuesday is expected to remain unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain and blustery conditions. Wednesday will feature a mixture of sunshine and showers, with temperatures in southern England climbing toward 20C. From Thursday onward, conditions will turn drier and brighter, especially for England and Wales.

Maximum temperatures of 26C could be seen on Friday in the southeast. The warm weather is set to continue into the late May bank holiday weekend, with highs of 23C on Saturday in the capital and 24C on Sunday and Monday. The best of the sunshine across the bank holiday weekend will probably be across England and Wales.
