UK Heatwave Intensifies With Temperatures Near 35C and Wildfires

The UK's third heatwave of 2026 is set to intensify again the week of 13 July 2026, BBC News reported. Temperatures across England and Wales on Monday will be lower than recent days but could still reach highs of 30C in some southern counties, with more places expected to exceed that mark and isolated forecasts near the mid-30s.

Heatwave thresholds may be briefly reached in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland as humidity levels increase.

Amber and yellow heat health alerts issued by the UK Health Security Agency remain in effect until 21:00 BST on 15 July, warning of significant impacts on health and social care services including a rise in deaths, particularly among those with health conditions or aged 65 and older.

Firefighters have been tackling wildfires across England and Wales, with emergency services warning the risk remains extreme. A mountain wildfire broke out on Sunday in Conwy, north Wales, forcing evacuations and declared a major incident; one family said the fire reached their driveway, coming within 200m of their house.

Wildfires also burned in Greater Manchester, Hampshire, County Durham, Derbyshire, East Sussex, West Sussex, Devon and Somerset over the weekend. The UK has already seen a record-breaking nine days this year where temperatures reached 34C or higher, exceeding the previous record of seven days set in 1976 and 2020.

Night-time temperatures will increase again, with the prospect of a few tropical nights above 20C.

Much of England's countryside appears a parched brown colour on a view from space on 9 July. Computer weather models show a likely trend to more northerly winds the weekend of 18-19 July, which will bring a drop in temperature.
