He said President Trump focused on actual spending rather than percentage targets.
Defense spending context The UK unveiled its Defence Investment Plan last week, which aims to reach 2.7 percent of GDP on defense by the end of the decade. More than half of NATO countries are projected to reach 3 percent by then. The UK also announced the Deep Precision Strike Project, a £37 billion joint venture with a dozen allies to develop missiles with a range of up to 1,200 miles.
leadership change The Prime Minister’s comments came ahead of a change in UK leadership expected in two weeks. President Trump repeated earlier complaints about UK policy on the use of a military base in Diego Garcia.
