The UK Prime Minister said on Friday that intelligence assessments from the UK and other NATO countries indicate Russia could attack a NATO member as soon as 2030. He made the remarks while visiting a drone manufacturer in southwest England and pledged to publish a long-delayed defence investment plan before the NATO summit scheduled to begin on 7 July in Turkey.
The announcement follows a similar timeframe given by NATO's chief in December, who said Russia could be ready to use military force against NATO within five years.
A 10-year defence investment plan was originally due late last year but has not yet been published. UK media reported that disagreements between the finance ministry and other departments over costs contributed to the delay. "In my 35-year career, this is the most dangerous period that I have known," Air Chief Marshal Richard Knighton told the BBC.
