A long-delayed Defence Investment Plan report laying out UK government defence spending is due to be released ahead of the Nato summit in early July. The Sunday Times reported that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is in talks over plans to cut government spending to raise £6bn to fund the plan. The Defence Investment Plan was supposed to be published last autumn.

The Public Accounts Committee says ministers should apologise for failing to prepare the UK for conflict with Russia. A Ministry of Defence spokesman says the DIP "will fix the outdated, overcommitted and underfunded programme we inherited". The paper said the lack of attack submarines leaves Britain's underwater internet and power cables dangerously exposed to Russia. The Sunday Times reported on the death of Henry Nowak, 18, who was fatally stabbed in December by Vickrum Digwa.

Digwa falsely claimed he had been racially abused. Police bodycam footage shows Nowak being handcuffed as he lay dying. Hampshire Police tried to intervene during the trial by releasing a public statement to address disinformation circulating online.

The Crown Prosecution Service advised Hampshire Police that releasing a public statement could jeopardise the integrity of the case. " The Sunday Telegraph reported that the Football Association was aware of concerns over David Sullivan at least three years ago.

British couple Lindsay and Craig Foreman were arrested in January last year in Iran. They were given a 10-year sentence in February on espionage charges which they deny. The couple believe their best hope of freedom is if Britain deports an Iranian prisoner who has been detained for 23 years in the UK.

The Sunday Express covered D-Day commemorations featuring centenarian warriors who returned to Normandy. Historians believe the animals on the England badge are in fact leopards, not lions. The crest on the England badge dates back centuries to when the animals were traditionally known as leopards.
