UK Records Six Days Above 35C, Surpassing 1976 Mark

The UK has recorded six days exceeding 35C so far this season, surpassing the previous record of five days set in 1976, GB News reported. Nine days have topped 34C, exceeding the eight-day mark also from that year. Britain has recorded temperatures of 35C or higher in May, June and July, the first time this has occurred across three separate calendar months.

Wisley in Surrey has recorded 27 consecutive days without rain. Substantial portions of England have received none of their typical July rainfall. Provisional Met Office figures show that during the first 11 days of July, most UK locations received less than 20 per cent of their expected monthly rainfall.

Wales and Northern Ireland precipitation levels are below seasonal averages. More than eight million households across England are currently subject to hosepipe restrictions. Natural England has issued warnings of very high or exceptional fire risk across much of England and Wales over the coming days.

Wildfires are currently burning in Greater Manchester, Derbyshire and Conwy. High-pressure systems are forecast to maintain their grip on UK weather for at least another week. Temperatures in southern England are forecast to reach as high as 33C by mid-week.

Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and other parts of England can expect temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s. Lingwood in Norfolk recorded 37.6C set in 1976. Northerly winds arriving at the weekend should deliver some respite, though temperatures will remain above normal for the time of year.
