UK Seeks Deportation of Parmeet Khurana as He Nears Early Release After Rape Conviction

Parmeet Khurana is set for release from prison after serving roughly 45 percent of a nine-year sentence handed down in 2022 for the 2021 rape of a 17-year-old and perverting the course of justice. GB News reported that the UK government is negotiating with Austrian officials to deport him, citing the UK Borders Act 2007 which requires a deportation order for foreign nationals sentenced to 12 months or more.

Khurana lived in Austria before arriving in the UK.

Labour had assured the victim that removing him was the government's highest priority. In March 2025 former Minister for Border Security and Asylum Dame Angela Eagle told the family the Home Office was continuing to pursue deportation but described the case as complex because of the need to liaise with Austrian authorities over his prior status there.

Current rules allow consideration for release after two-thirds of a sentence.

GB News reported that Labour is advancing legislation that would permit sex offenders to be freed after serving half their term. Up to 6,000 offenders convicted of manslaughter, rape and sexual assault could qualify, with the first group of 700 scheduled for release in September followed by similar numbers each month for nine months.

The victim's mother said early release of child rapists was unacceptable and amounted to a travesty of justice that undermined victims.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said public safety remains the top priority, that the most dangerous offenders are blocked from early release, and that released prisoners face movement restrictions, tagging and other conditions supported by £700 million in probation funding and 1,300 additional officers.
