Ukraine Destroys Road and Rail Bridges Supplying Russian Forces in Crimea

Ukrainian forces have destroyed several road and rail bridges supplying Russian-held territory in Crimea and adjacent regions over the past month. The attacks represent an escalation of Ukraine's "logistics lockdown" campaign that previously focused on refineries and other targets.

The strikes rely on long-range attack drones that deliver smaller warheads with precision guidance. Operators direct the munitions to chip away at concrete and steel supports rather than attempting to destroy entire spans in single hits. A "double tap" approach has also been used, with follow-up strikes hitting repair crews and equipment after initial damage.

One railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal near Rozdolne was hit on June 22 and struck again the next night after repair teams arrived.

The Fire Point FP-2 drone carries a 350-pound warhead and has a range of roughly 120 miles. It costs about $55,000 and is produced in large numbers, allowing repeated strikes on the same targets. Another weapon identified in the bridge attacks is the Ruta, described as a mini cruise missile with a 500-pound warhead and range exceeding 400 miles.

It flies at around 600 mph and uses AI-based target recognition to strike supports. The new drone strikes focus on structural supports, producing more lasting effects. Russian air defenses have been thinned by earlier Ukrainian operations, and some systems have reportedly been withdrawn to protect Moscow.

Production of the FP-2 and orders for hundreds of Ruta missiles suggest the campaign can continue at scale. The bridge losses threaten to cut fuel and ammunition supplies to Russian positions in Crimea and increase pressure on logistics across occupied areas.
