Ukraine Finds Body of Woman Wanted in Monaco Bombing

Ukraine's Security Service said Tuesday it had recovered the body of a Ukrainian national previously identified by Interpol as the main suspect in a Monaco bombing.

The security service said an officer serving in Ukraine's military intelligence agency confessed to killing the woman with the help of a former law enforcement officer. The officer claimed he acted on his own initiative and without informing his superiors.

Investigators recovered the body during a reconstruction of the crime based on one suspect's testimony. The woman had gunshot wounds to the head, and spent pistol casings were found at the scene. During searches, authorities also found what the security service described as a basement resembling a torture chamber at the former law enforcement officer's home.

Both men have been detained on suspicion of premeditated murder.

Monaco Incident The June 29 attack targeted a Ukrainian business tycoon with links to Russia and his family. Three people were injured, including a child. The incident occurred in Monaco, a coastal enclave known for its tax-friendly incentives, royal family, and Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Its head of state described the blast as an odious act and said all public services were mobilized to ensure security. The security service said it had shared all available information with Monaco's investigators and was continuing to identify those who ordered and organized the attempted killing.
