Ukraine intercepts drones and cruise missiles but not ballistic missiles in latest attack

Russia launched 23 ballistic missiles, more than three dozen cruise missiles, and hundreds of drones in an attack that mainly targeted Kyiv. Ukrainian air defense systems intercepted the drones and cruise missiles but did not stop the ballistic missiles.

The US-made Patriot system fires several types of interceptors, including the PAC-3 model. A spokesperson for the Ukrainian president said the country's forces performed well intercepting drones and cruise missiles but not Russian ballistic missiles.

Interceptor supply NATO's secretary general confirmed on Monday that interceptors continue to reach Ukraine. Production of Patriot interceptors has increased, though global demand remains high. The US and its allies in the Middle East used hundreds of interceptors during recent conflict with Iran.

Stockpiles were already strained before that use, and production has not kept pace with demand. The Ukrainian president is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump this week on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, a White House spokesperson said on Sunday.
