Ukrainian Drone Strikes Kill at Least Four in Russia

Ukrainian drone attacks overnight killed at least four people in Russia, with three deaths reported in the Moscow region and one in Belgorod, Russian authorities said. Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said a woman died when a drone struck a house in Khimki. Two men were killed in the village of Pogorelki in the Mytishchi district. Rescue teams searched rubble for another possible victim.

Sobyanin said 12 people were injured near the entrance to the city oil refinery. Three nearby houses were damaged. The refinery, owned by Gazprom Neft, continued operating without disruption. Air defenses shot down 81 drones targeting the capital, Sobyanin said. Debris from a drone was found at Sheremetyevo airport, though no injuries or damage occurred there.

Defense Ministry said air defenses intercepted 556 drones across the country overnight. The figure ranks among the highest since the start of the war in 2022. Ukraine's General Staff reported that Russia launched 287 drones toward Ukraine since late Saturday. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 279 of them, with eight direct hits recorded in seven locations.

U.S. President Donald Trump on May 8. Russia and Ukraine resumed strikes on each other on May 12. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine had already destroyed high-value Russian military equipment this week and pledged further retaliation for recent Russian strikes on Kyiv.

Russian forces also carried out drone and shelling attacks in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, injuring eight people, local officials said.
