Ukrainian drones hit two Russian oil refineries; Russia says it downed 213 drones overnight

Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Slavyansk-na-Kubani in Russia’s Krasnodar region on Sunday, setting the facility ablaze. Debris from the downed drones killed one person in the town and wounded another in a nearby village, local authorities said. The refinery processes close to 4 million tons of crude per year.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Telegram that strikes reached two oil refineries in Russia. He said each strike reduces resources fueling the Russian war machine. Zelenskyy also reported a strike on a refinery in the Yaroslavl region about 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Some roads between Moscow and Yaroslavl were temporarily closed due to the drone activity, according to regional Gov. Mikhail Evraev. Yaroslavl’s airport closed briefly overnight, along with other airports in southern and western Russia, Russia’s civil aviation agency said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Sunday that Russia is going through a difficult period. He said Moscow will honor all its social obligations and that strategically important domestic programs will continue in full. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Moscow is reviewing fuel export agreements to protect domestic needs.

Drivers in Russia’s Irkutsk region are barred from buying more than 50 liters of fuel per vehicle per day at state-run Rosneft stations, local Gov. Igor Kobzev said. Fuel sales to civilians were suspended in Crimea last weekend.

Russia’s Defense Ministry stated its forces shot down 213 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russia, occupied Crimea, and the Black and Azov seas. The Ukrainian air force said Russia attacked Ukraine with 142 long-range strike drones and eight missiles, of which 125 drones and seven missiles were shot down.

A Russian aerial bomb killed two people and injured 16 others, including two children, in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, regional administration head Ivan Fedorov said.
