Ukrainian President Calls for European Negotiator in Possible Russia Talks

Ukrainian president said Europe should select a representative to lead possible peace talks with Russia. The president made the comments after meeting with the European Council president. Both agreed that Europe should participate in any negotiations and maintain a strong presence throughout the process.

Officials will need to determine who could represent European interests if negotiations advance.

Ukraine conducted strikes on Russian territory over the weekend, hitting several locations including Moscow. Officials stated the actions responded to continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. Russia launched more than 500 drones and 20 missiles overnight.

Ukrainian president called on European countries to strengthen defenses against such attacks. Russian authorities described the peace process with Ukraine as currently on pause but expected it to resume. They also rejected recent warnings about possible escalation as attempts to increase tensions.
