United States and Cape Verde Advance from 2026 World Cup Group Stage

The group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup ended June 27 after 48 matches played in the United States, Canada and Mexico since the June 11 opener. The United States recorded a 4-1 win over Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium, a 2-0 victory against Australia on June 19 in Seattle that secured advancement, and a 3-2 loss to Turkey on June 25 at SoFi Stadium.

Cape Verde also reached the knockout rounds.

The nation of 529,000 people fields a squad valued at $63.2 million and competes in a country whose GDP stands at $3.45 billion. Kacey White, an MLS analyst and former U.S. Women's National Team member, appeared on CBS Saturday Morning to review the American performance and preview the knockout phase.

The United States will play Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on July 1 at 8 p.m. ET in Santa Clara, California. The Round of 32 runs from June 28 to July 3, followed by the Round of 16 from July 4 to July 7, quarterfinals July 9-11, semifinals July 14-15, the third-place match July 18, and the final July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Viewers with an antenna can watch 70 matches free on a network channel and the remaining 34 on a cable sports channel. Ninety-two matches are available free over the air in Spanish on another network channel, with the rest on a second Spanish-language outlet. All matches stream on a primary service and its sports app, while a second platform holds Spanish-language rights.
