University of California Will Review SAT Role in Admissions by 2027

The University of California will conduct a review of the SAT and other standardized tests in undergraduate admissions, with results expected by June 2027. The review will also examine high school course requirements for UC eligibility. Officials said the process remains active despite earlier media reports that it had been suspended.

The Board of Regents voted unanimously in 2020 to end the use of the SAT and ACT in admissions. That decision overruled a recommendation from the UC Academic Senate to retain the tests. A growing number of professors have since called for reinstatement of the SAT.

The Academic Senate announced last month that it would begin a new review of standardized testing and eligibility requirements. Several news outlets reported last month that an Academic Senate committee had decided to drop the review. University officials later clarified that the evaluation is continuing.
