The suspect, identified as Michael Marx, 45, of Texas, was spotted Monday afternoon near 15th Street and Independence Avenue NW, which is roughly a half mile from the White House, when officers noticed what appeared to be a concealed firearm. When agents approached, Marx ran, then pulled a handgun from his waistband while fleeing, according to a federal affidavit reviewed by Fox News Digital.
As officers chased him through a busy crosswalk filled with pedestrians, Marx turned and fired in the direction of a Secret Service officer, documents say. SECRET SERVICE OFFICERS SHOOT ARMED INDIVIDUAL NEAR WHITE HOUSE READ THE AFFIDAVIT: A male civilian, previously identified as a juvenile, standing behind the officer was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the affidavit said.
Images included in the court filing appear to show the suspect moving through the intersection as people scatter, then raising the weapon and firing. LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONDING AFTER 2 NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS SHOT NEAR WHITE HOUSE Secret Service agents returned fire, striking Marx in the hand, left arm and upper abdomen before taking him into custody, the affidavit said.
GOT A TIP? The shooting unfolded moments after Vance’s motorcade had passed through the area, though Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn previously said that there is no indication it was targeted. Authorities said Marx was taken to a hospital.

The suspect who allegedly opened fire in downtown DC Tuesday — as Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade was set to roll through — uttered “f–k the White House” on his way to the hospital, officials revealed as they unmasked the shooter. m. Tuesday, DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced.
4 Michael Marx allegedly opened fired at a Secret Service agent in downtown DC. DOJ The 45-year-old suspect — who was shot three times — allegedly ranted “f–k the White House” and “kill me! Kill me! ” in an ambulance on the way to the George Washington University Hospital, a criminal complaint alleges.
The terrifying incident near the Washington Monument and the National Mall unfolded after a plain-clothed Secret Service agent saw Marx trying to hide a firearm on the right side of his body as he was in the area near 15th Street and Madison Drive, the court papers allege.
That agent called in a team of backup Secret Service officers who found Marx near 15th Street Southwest and Independence Avenue Southwest “walking along the path of” Vance’s motorcade which had left the White House minutes earlier, the docs claim. 4 Marx’ bullet struck a bystander, a kid walking with his family.
DOJ The agents started filing out of cars and yelling commands at Marx who fled across the street with a group of bystanders as he pulled a gun out of his waistband, the complaint alleges. Once Marx was on the other side of the street he turned around and fired at one agent, striking a kid in the leg as he was out with his family, the court papers claim.
The agents “returned fire” hitting Marx in the hand, left arm and upper stomach, the complaint alleges. The victim — a juvenile — was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. m. after a plain-clothed Secret Service agent spotted Marx trying to hide a gun by his right side, prosecutors claim.
Getty Images Officers recovered a Sig Sauer P365 pistol and 9mm bullets in the magazine from the scene, the complaint says. Marx didn’t have a license to carry in DC and he allegedly had a prior conviction in Florida for drug trafficking. “We will prove this defendant carried an illegal firearm into the heart of Washington, D.C., opened fire at Secret Service officers near a crowded intersection, and shot an innocent bystander who was simply crossing the street with his family,” Pirro said in a statement .
” 4 Vice President JD Vance was en route along the path where Marx was fired his gun. DOJ He is charged with assaulting federal officers with a dangerous weapon, using and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
It was not immediately known who was legally representing Marx. The shooting happened less than two weeks after Cole Allen allegedly opened fire in the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner where President Trump, wife Melania and his top cabinet members were in attendance.
The soirée was evacuated and one Secret Service agent was struck by Allen’s bullet but was saved by his bullet-proof vest. Allen is charged with trying to kill the president and related crimes. He’s yet to enter a plea in the case.

The White House outreach comes as Trump is riding high following back-to-back wins over the last week, first from the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Louisiana v.
Callais and the second in Indiana, where he was able to successfully oust several state Republicans who defied him on redistricting. “He clearly expressed his desire that we take a look at the maps now, especially in light of the Louisiana Supreme Court opinion,” Massey said. However, Massey said he was not pressured by Trump to take up creating a new congressional map to eliminate the sole Democrat-held district in the state during the conversation.
The Washington Examiner has reached out to the White House for more information. South Carolina’s legislature has been divided over pursuing a gerrymandered map to eliminate Rep. Jim Clyburn’s (D-SC) district, with detractors, including Massey, arguing it could create two toss-up districts instead of one solid Democratic district.
According to the outlet, Massey said he told Trump he would likely not be supportive of a redistricting effort. “I told him I will listen to whatever you want to share with me. I will look at whatever you want me to look at. But I’m probably not going to be supportive of this effort,” Massey said of their conversation.
The Supreme Court’s ruling weakened Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, opening the door for multiple southern red states to redraw their maps in an escalation of a nationwide redistricting war that began last year. ” He continued, “If they have to vote twice, so be it.
We should demand that State Legislatures do what the Supreme Court says must be done. That is more important than administrative convenience. ” South Carolina’s lawmakers took steps Wednesday to allow the state legislature to consider creating a new map, advancing a proposal that would allow them to return after the legislative session ends on May 14.
THE DEMOCRATS WHO ARE SCRAMBLING AFTER FLORIDA PASSED DESANTIS’S MAP GERRYMANDER Trump’s reported conversations with the South Carolina leader come after he successfully ousted several Indiana state lawmakers who shot down an effort to redistrict that would likely have given Republicans two more U.S. House seats.
State Sens. Dan Dernulc, Linda Rogers, Travis Holdman, Jim Buck, and Greg Walker were defeated by Trump-backed challengers. The race between state Sen. Spencer Deery and Trump-supported Paula Copenhaver was too close to call. Only state Sen. Greg Goode survived Tuesday night, defeating a challenge from Trump-backed Brenda Wilson.
