US Conducts Eighth Night of Strikes on Iran

US Central Command completed the eighth consecutive night of strikes against Iran on July 19, acting at the direction of the commander-in-chief. Fighter jets hit sites on Qeshm Island, where at least two explosions were reported, and a location near Shadegan in Khuzestan province.
Iran’s army said it launched a large-scale drone attack on two US military facilities in Kuwait, striking an ammunition depot at Camp Al Adiri and Patriot and air-defence radars at Ali Al Salem airbase.
Emergency teams deployed to the affected sites on Qeshm Island to assess damage and casualties. The United States reimposed a naval blockade on Iran’s southern ports after lifting it following a June memorandum of understanding. CENTCOM redirected ships in the Strait of Hormuz and struck the Curacao-flagged supertanker Belma, which had been transporting Iranian crude.
A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the Saland area of Khuzestan province at a depth of about 12 kilometres. Two rescue teams from the Iranian Red Crescent Society were sent to villages near the epicentre. Major-General Ali Abdullahi, commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, stated that any aggression would be met with a decisive and devastating response and described the US as the Great Satan.
The US State Department urged Americans travelling anywhere in the world to exercise increased caution because of heightened tensions in the Middle East. American service members have been killed in the conflict, increasing the total number of US personnel killed since the fighting began.
