U.S. authorities refused entry to Somali referee Omari Artan at Miami International Airport even though he held a valid travel visa. The incident occurred two days before the World Cup begins. Fifa stated it is not involved in host-country immigration processes, including visa adjudications.

The organization added that a host government determines who receives a visa and who is admitted.
